Psych : “High Noon-ish” (4:03)

James Roday (Shawn Spencer), James Brolin (Hank Mendel), Dule Hill (Burton Guster)

With the comedy detective show Psych now in syndication, despite still being in production, I recently watched a Western themed episode, originally broadcast August 21, 2009, starring James Brolin as Hank Mendel. When Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dule Hill) attempt to find out the truth behind a murder they uncover a secret gold mine and a villain named Stinky Pete (Jim Beaver).

“High Noon-ish” (4:03) contains elements of a Weird Western with a ghost rider being blamed for recent deaths in the Western theme town. The conclusion sees this entertaining episode classified as a Weird Menace Western (according to categories featured in my Encyclopedia of Weird Westerns).

Soulless Sam : Vincent Price Presents # 16

“After her husband is brutally murdered by a psychotic gunslinger named Soulless Sam, Emily and her son Peter try to start a new life. But, can Emily and Peter live in peace or will Soulless Sam continue to terrorize them?”

I just downloaded my free copy of this comic book from WOWIO – an entertaining borderline Weird Western from Bluewater Productions. I’d define it (according to the guidelines I used in my book) as a Weird Menace Western.

The artwork by Juan Tomajok is effective at building up tension and the story by Nick Lyons carries a lesson-to-be-learned at it’s rather tame conclusion. It’s worth a look for the artwork and Soulless Sam whose character promises much more than he delivers.
